Sip, Savor, and Celebrate: A Toast to Eagle Fork Vineyard in Hayesville, NC

One of the best things about owning real estate in Western North Carolina is all the fun things to do. I have an aunt and uncle who own a vacation home right here in Murphy NC, and their favorite must-do is to visit local wineries. I must admit, I enjoy going with them!

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about wine, it’s that it’s best enjoyed in the company of family and friends, under the open sky, with a touch of music to set the mood. And if you’re lucky enough to be in the mountains, make the 25-minute drive from Murphy to Hayesville, North Carolina to go to Eagle Fork Vineyard is where you’ll find all of these elements coming together in perfect harmony. This privately owned gem is a true testament to the joys of family, fine wines, and unforgettable memories.

A Warm Welcome from the Heart

Eagle Fork Vineyard, nestled in the picturesque mountains of Hayesville, NC, is more than just a winery; it’s a labor of love by a wonderful family that pours their heart and soul into every aspect of this charming establishment. From the moment you step foot on their grounds, you’ll be greeted with warmth and hospitality that feels like coming home.

A Vintage Celebration

My personal favorite of the Eagle Fork wines is the Sweet Smoky Mountain White

What’s a celebration without wine? Eagle Fork Vineyard boasts an impressive selection of both whites and reds, each crafted with the utmost care and dedication. Whether you’re a seasoned wine connoisseur or a newbie looking to discover your palate, this place has something for everyone. And the best part? You can sample their wines to your heart’s content to find your perfect match.

Wine Slushies: The Ultimate Refreshment

If you’re looking for a refreshing twist on your wine adventure, Eagle Fork Vineyard has you covered with their delightful wine slushies. These frozen concoctions are the perfect antidote to a hot summer day, offering a fun and unique way to enjoy your favorite flavors in a new form.

A Seat for Every Occasion

Whether you prefer the cozy indoors, the rustic outdoor pavilion, or the fresh open air, Eagle Fork Vineyard has a spot that suits your mood. Their indoor seating area exudes warmth and charm, while the outdoor pavilion with its versatile walls provides the perfect setting for year-round enjoyment. And of course, you can’t forget the true outdoor seating where you can soak up the natural beauty of Hayesville.

Music to Your Ears

What’s better than wine and a serene ambiance? Wine and live music, of course! Eagle Fork Vineyard frequently hosts live music events on their pavilion, creating the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable evening. It’s a testament to the owners’ commitment to creating a truly immersive experience for their visitors.

A Toast to Togetherness

We couldn’t resist the charm of Eagle Fork Vineyard either, and that’s why we chose it as the backdrop for our 2022 Client Appreciation Party. The combination of excellent wine, impeccable service, and a stunning setting made it an evening to remember for over 125 attendees. It was a heartfelt way to say “thank you” to our clients, surrounded by the beauty and love that this family-owned vineyard exudes.

If you’re looking to create your own special memories or just want to unwind with a glass of exceptional wine in hand, Eagle Fork Vineyard is the place to be. We can’t recommend it enough for an unforgettable experience that will leave you with a warm heart and a smile on your face.

Bald River Falls Completely Frozen – Waterfall in Nearby Tellico TN

My family and I recently took a weekend trip to a popular spot in the Cherokee National Forest and I had to share! Bald River Falls is in the Cherokee National Forest just outside Tellico TN. It’s only a 23 mile distance,  yet takes about an hour and a half to get there. When you’re looking for things to do in and around Murphy, NC, this should definitely make your list! This was a rare treat – the waterfall is completely frozen! Watch the video below to see more!

Making the Most of Your Murphy, NC Weekend

If escaping to the mountains has been on your bucket list, and you’ve finally cleared your calendar for the weekend, program your GPS for beautiful Cherokee County, North Carolina. Specifically, plan a trip to Murphy, NC, where you can experience peace and quiet, small-town charm, and drop-dead-gorgeous vistas everywhere you look.

Next, reserve that secluded cabin where you can ogle the wildlife and marvel at the stars while you relax on the deck. Contact the folks at Mountain Country Cabin Rentals to find that perfect getaway spot. To get the most from your Murphy weekend, plan to check in on Friday afternoon (or if you’re really lucky, Thursday afternoon so you have an extra day!).

After you arrive, take time to soak up the solitude and put yourself into slow-motion mode, or “mountain time” as we call it. Next, head into town for a glass of wine and Happy Hour entertainment at The Daily Grind in downtown Murphy. For dinner, Murphy’s Chophouse and Shoebootie’s are always good bets. Back at the cabin, settle down for a good night’s sleep, with your weekend still stretching ahead.

On Saturday morning, wake up with visions of a hearty breakfast dancing in your head. Make that dream a reality with a weekend breakfast buffet at Brother’s Restaurant, or fill up on the delectable pancakes at Blue Mountain Grill. After that, walk off your meal by browsing the downtown Murphy shops. You’ll find antiques and collectibles, art galleries, handcrafted baked goods and olive oils, and even a well-stocked outfitters store…plus much more. If you’re in the mood for lunch, the Red Brick Deli serves up hearty overstuffed sandwiches.

Or, take a spin through Foster’s and Decker’s Flea Markets, a few miles west of town at the Route 129 intersection. These almost-legendary establishments feature everything from handcrafted wood furniture to antique farm implements…and everything in between. If you find yourself with some extra time, head west into Tennessee’s stunning Ocoee Gorge, the site of the 1996 Olympics whitewater competitions. It’s well worth the short drive, and you’ll love the jaw-dropping scenery.

Now that you’ve worked up an appetite for dinner, head over to Doyle’s Cedar Hill Restaurant for a delectable meal using many local ingredients. In fact, Doyle’s frequently hosts “Farm to Table” dinners featuring local farmers’ and growers’ bounty. After savoring your meal, stroll over to the Tiki Bar for some rousing live entertainment.

After a good night’s sleep, enjoy some R&R time on the deck, and then head off for another satisfying breakfast. Next, take a leisurely day to enjoy the mountain scenery. Ride through the Nantahala National Forest, which really is the “Land of the Noonday Sun.” Or, visit Hiwassee Dam and Fields of the Wood, both reachable via Route 294 west of Murphy. If you have some extra time, continue through Tellico Plains, Tennessee and return to Murphy, NC the long way. You’ll find that while you’re here, there’s no shortage of Things to do in Murphy NC so long as you enjoy the great outdoors, small town atmosphere, and enjoy a little exploring.

Sometime on Sunday, you’ll turn the car toward home and leave your weekend paradise. Of course, if you’ve been captivated by the mountains’ charm, you might consider living here. As luck would have it, we can help with that, too. You can search all the real estate for sale in Murphy NC right from our website and let us know what we can do to help 🙂 I will warn you – the more weekends you spend, the harder it gets each time to leave.

Panther Top Fire Tower Overlooks Murphy NC and Cherokee County

Panther Top Panoramic ViewMurphy NC can brag about one fine fire lookout station located here in Cherokee County. It is called the Panther Top Lookout Tower. Although it is not used as an active fire watch, it is used as a radio point for the Forest Service employees. It is normally gated off and cannot be accessed by vehicle, you can hike to it just about year around. They do open the road a couple times a year so you can check with the forest service with WKRK for availability. Even though it isn’t always open, it’s certainly a great Thing to Do when you’re here in Murphy NC.

The tower itself rises approximately 30′ in the air and was built in 1940. It has since been remodeled. It is situated on a summit that rises to 2,293 feet, so you get one amazing view. You can see all our pictures we took right here in this post. Amazing! Be sure to click the pictures to see larger images if you want. You can even see Lake Hiwassee in the distance.

To get to the fire tower, drive west on US 64 about 7 miles and turn right on Ranger Road. Drive 2.3 miles to a T and turn right on Panther Top Road.  Continue 1.0 mi. until the pavement ends and the road forks.  Take the right fork. And go toward the Panther Top Shooting Range.  Zero your odometer and follow the gravel road 1.2 mi. to where FS 85 actually turns left and uphill and FS 85A continues straight.  The junction can be missed easily if you are not watching for it.  FS 85 is normally gated to the tower itself.

Murphy Riverwalk in Murphy NC is a Great Part of Konaheeta Park

The Town of Murphy NC has some wonderful things for you to do. I personally love the Murphy Riverwalk and use it to walk and run as much as my schedule allows. It’s the perfect opportunity to get outside and see some gorgeous scenery and features of our area.

It has many different trails you can follow. It runs from the L&N Depot (which is a couple hundred yards to the left of Nantahala Bank and Chevelle’s Restaurant), along the Hiwassee River and the Valley River and all the way to Konaheeta Park. It then ties into the many different paths you can follow at the Park and even into downtown Murphy NC if you like.

It’s such pretty scenery I thought I would share a few pictures I took one day. Enjoy and I hope you take the opportunity to check it out! 🙂
