Murphy, North Carolina is known for its natural beauty and resources.  If you love to get outside, there are lots of places you can camp here in Murphy and in surrounding areas. The Nantahala National Forest has camping sites set up and ready,  bath facilities, two public boat ramps on Lake Hiwassee, group picnic shelter, bike riding, trail heads, and much more.

 

Because it is maintained by the US Forest Service, all of the resources available here are either free or quite inexpensive. The facilities are in excellent shape! You can find more information from the local Ranger District.

Persimmion Creek Campground and Trout Farm, Murphy NC – Persimmon Creek campground is located only 13 miles from the Ocoee River, and is in the heart of some of the best motorcycle/mountain bike riding in the country.

Hanging Dog US Forest Service Campground, Murphy NC- Serving as a place where those weary from the hustle and bustle of daily life can retreat to to regain a sense of calm and serenity. Llocated just 7 miles west of Murphy.  Make a left on Peachtree Street (which later becomes Tennessee Street and later becomes Joe Brown Highway).  Turn right at blinking light onto Hanging Dog Road traveling approximately 4.5 miles, passing the Grandview Missionary Baptist Church and the Fire Station.  Turn left onto Ed Graves Road and continue to the park which is on the right.

Jackrabbit Mountain, Hayesville, NC – Jackrabbit Mountain Campground offers scenic lakeside camping in the beautiful Nantahala National Forest of southwestern North Carolina. The campground is located on a peninsula on Lake Chatuge, a dammed lake on the Hiwassee River. The facility is also equipped with accessible showers, flush toilets and picnic shelters.

Georgia Mountain Fair Grounds, Hiawassee GA -The Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds are located along the shores of beautiful Lake Chatuge in the north Georgia mountain community of Hiawassee. The Fairgrounds offer a wide-variety of unique venues and beautiful year-round camping facilities.
