Three Great Tax Reasons to Retire and Live in North Carolina

Old Ben certain had it right, and it’s refreshing to know North Carolina’s new tax reform will help those who live and retire to North Carolina. There are three great benefits in the new tax code scheduled to take place in 2014. They are:

  1. Social Security income is exempt from state income tax.
  2. Income tax rates reduced to a flat rate of 5.8% in 2014 and 5.75% in 2015. The old code called for a rate as high as 7.75%
  3. Estate Tax is now abolished and is even retroactive to January 1, 2013. Not shabby at all!

It’s wonderful to live in the Smoky Mountains – it’s such a gorgeous area of the United States! Now, not only do you have beauty to look forward to, you have some great tax incentives too.

From Murphy to Manteo in North Carolina

My favorite sign to see in the whole world!

Ever heard the phrase from Murphy to Manteo? We hear it quite a bit! North Carolina is a BIG state and its a phrase that represents the sheer size – the westernmost and easternmost town in the state of NC.

It’s amazing to me! There are so many people that ride their bicycle, walk, and run the 545 mile trip from Murphy to Manteo. Every year, there are organizations and fundraisers that have races from one end to the other to raise funds for a cause.

That’s dedication! I was reading several folks that did it in 7-9 days – that’s quick! Now to make the drive, it takes a solid 9 hours to complete the drive – and you never leave the state!

North Carolina is a gorgeous state and if you love the mountains of North Carolina, Murphy is the place for you to call home. In my very biased opinion, there’s no prettier or better place to live in the entire world than Murphy  🙂 So while you’re here in the mountains, be sure to check out the area and buy some real estate!
