Sell your House While Inventory is at Historic Lows!

If you are considering selling your house, now is the best time we have seen in years to do so! The real estate inventory is at historic lows, meaning you have the greatest opportunity and odds of selling because buyers have the fewest houses to choose from since 2007+/-. It also has the added benefit you are able to get more money than in the past. It’s a great time!

Areas that are getting great results selling houses:

  • Murphy NC
  • Hayesville NC
  • Brasstown NC
  • Marble NC
  • and many more of our surrounding, smaller communities.

Should I Wait Till Spring??

We’re getting this question a lot and, the short answer is NO! Many home owners wait to sell her house in springtime. What will happen is the inventory levels will rise as much as 20 to 30%. That will give home buyers far more choices and less opportunity and urgency for you to sell. If you’re considering selling, I see no benefit to waiting. I would encourage you to act now to get the greatest impact and likelihood of selling. Can we help you? Please fill out the form below or call us at 1-866-Murphy-NC or 1-866-687-7496. We’re here to guide you on your specific situation and property. We’re here for you!

Experience Our Famous New Year’s Eve Possum Drop This Year in Brasstown NC

If you always get a thrill when that glittery ball drops on New Year’s Eve – but you have no intention of heading to Times Square – join us for the mountain version of that memorable occasion. On Thursday, December 31, 2015, quiet little Brasstown, North Carolina (several miles from Murphy, NC) will host its 22nd Annual New Year’s Eve Possum Drop. This nationally famous event kicks off around 9:30 p.m., when several hundred to thousand hardy revelers gather at the Clay’s Corner station, right next to the John C. Campbell Folk School. This family-friendly evening is alcohol free, so bring the kids to enjoy it, too!

The festivities begin with toe-tapping bluegrass from the Barker Brothers, followed by Larry Witcher’s classic “Eulogy to a Possum” that always stirs the crowd’s emotions. Shortly after 10 p.m., the Guest of Honor arrives with considerable fanfare. As the lucky possum reclines in comfort, he enjoys a gospel music tribute and the much-anticipated Possum Idol Sing-Off.

Next, the Miss Possum Contest takes center stage. If you’re expecting a typical beauty pageant, where lovely young ladies glide across the stage in gorgeous evening gowns, you’re barking up the wrong tree. Instead, you’ll see several lumberjack types who likely drove their pickup trucks to the event – except they’re all decked out in frills and glitter. Believe it or not, they’re all competing for the coveted “Miss Possum” crown. This event defies description – you just have to see it in person. After the whoops and hollers die down, enjoy a “Tribute to Our Service Men and Women,” quite appropriate for this highly patriotic region.

As midnight approaches, excitement builds for the big Possum Drop. This year, station owner Clay Logan plans to lower a live opossum, who views all the hoopla from his cozy decorated Plexiglas box. In contrast, Logan was compelled to use a fake possum during the 2014 event, after an animal rights group’s legal action blocked him from using a live animal. However, this year the North Carolina General Assembly passed legislation that brought a real possum back into the picture. The animal rights group challenged the new law, but a North Carolina Superior Court Judge ruled in the possum’s favor.

Now, you might be wondering about the possum’s pre-event accommodations. Because this sluggish marsupial is the main attraction, Clay Logan ensures that his newfound friend gets the star treatment for several days before the show. Mr. Possum gets a nice comfy bed and tasty meals, and he doesn’t have to worry about becoming a Murphy, NC area traffic statistic. In other words, the possum lives high on the hog. And just in case you wonder, we support the use of the opossum! It gets the red carpet treatment making it the luckiest possum possible.

Finally, the clock strikes the midnight hour, and Clay Logan happily lowers his possum to welcome the New Year. The crowd erupts into roars and applause, and there are lots of hugs and kisses to go around. Brilliant fireworks fill the Brasstown, NC sky, and another Possum Drop goes into the record books.

John Campbell Folk School Fall Festival in Brasstown NC Offers Fun for the Entire Family

It’s true! The 2015 Fall Festival is cancelled for the first time that we know of! It’s quite disappointing that we will not be able to enjoy all the festivities; however, we know it is well worth the wait for next year. Go ahead and put it on your 2016 calendar and be prepared to see us in the mountains. So here’s this year’s article we wrote about the festival:

If you’re always ready for a good mountain craft festival, and you want to enjoy our drop-dead-gorgeous fall colors, come check out the famous John C. Campbell Folk School Fall Festival. This almost-legendary event takes place near Murphy NC, in a charming little place called Brasstown NC during the first weekend in October. This year’s Fall Festival will be held on October 3 and 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In fact, this is quite a special gathering, as the Folk School celebrates its 90th Anniversary in 2015.

When you arrive on the Folk School campus, park your vehicle and put on your walking shoes. Start meandering along the tree-lined paths as you visit over 240 craft vendors who are happy to share their work. You’ll see fine-quality basketry, glass, ironwork, jewelry, painting, custom knives, pottery, weaving, woodturning, and woodworking…plus some interesting crafts you’ve never seen before. If you’re a hands-on person, come watch over 40 traditional and contemporary craft demonstrations that provide a taste of our region’s Appalachian culture.

If your toes begin tapping when you hear some lively music, the Fall Festival offers plenty of live performances on two stages. The roomy Festival Barn stage, and the wooded Shady Grove

near the Craft Shop, will host quite a lineup of regional musicians and dancers. Come hear country, old time, bluegrass, gospel, Celtic, French, and blues songs throughout the weekend. The Appalachian cloggers and Morris dancers will wake up your sense of rhythm, and you might even start swaying to the music while you watch.

Kids will also discover plenty of fun Fall Festival activities. Pony rides and face painting are always a hit, and the Cherokee County Arts Council will tempt younger festivalgoers with some exciting crafts projects. Inside the group’s tent, budding artists can dabble in paper arts, fabric collages, painting, felting, and whimmy-diddling, just to name a few.

Naturally, you’ll work up an appetite while you browse craft vendors and dance to the live music. Good thing the Fall Festival has lots of lunch, snack, and dessert foods for every taste. Even better, all proceeds support local non-profit and community groups. That’s a “win win” for everybody!

What are you waiting for? Get on down to the John C. Campbell Folk School Fall Festival, just a stone’s throw from Murphy, NC and Cherokee County. We just might see you there!

The 40th Annual John C Campbell Folk School Fall Festival in Brasstown NC

Each year, the John C Campbell folk school hosts its Fall Festival on the first Saturday and Sunday of October. This year marks the 40th annual Fall Festival.

They also make a quilt banner representing each year that they host the fall festival. I always enjoy getting a picture of them and sharing them with you, so look below for links to one’s from previous years. There is some great talent that goes into making them. There’s also a picture of the long row of the banners from each year.

Inside the big barn, they always have some great music going on both days. Here is a wonderful bluegrass band that we caught a video of and wanted to share with you. He is singing about all kinds of stuff, including chicken bones! It’s pretty funny, but there’s no doubt it’s good, exciting music when you’re standing there watching it.

Basket from Folk School Fall Festival

There always some incredibly talented artist there as well. They are selling their products they handcraft. This year, we bought a beautiful handmade basket that is designed to hang on the wall. It’s quite large and is perfect for hanging Jessica’s grandmother’s blanket. It truly is beautiful and took a lot of talent to make it! There are so many incredible vendors there, there’s no way that she can leave without being in awe of the talent that is there. I even bought a handcrafted buffalo belt for only $30 that was custom fit for me! It was far better than anything you can buy in a store for essentially the same price.

When The Fall Festival comes back in 2014, you should definitely go! Go ahead and put on your calendar for the first Saturday and Sunday in October. We look forward to seeing you there! 🙂

Every year, the John C. Campbell Folkschool has their Fall Festival on the first Saturday in October. Fortunately, this year was no different! We went on Saturday, and the turnout was astronomical! There were lots of vendors, music, people, and fun!

One of my favorite parts is all the booths for the vendors. You can find everything from hand crafted walking sticks, pottery, decorations, canoes, kettle corn, photography, paintings, knives, iron works, you name it! This year we took lots of pictures while we were there in Brasstown NC, so enjoy! 🙂

This year’s Fall Festival at the John C Campbell Folk School in Murphy was a great turn out! The live music was amazing – especially the ones we heard! This year, we didn’t get to stay as long as we normally do. Our newborn was fussing his little head off after a few hours so we had to go! 🙂
