The John C Campbell Folk School Fall Festival in Murphy NC 2011

This year’s Fall Festival at the John C Campbell Folk School in Murphy was a great turn out! The live music was amazing – especially the ones we heard! This year, we didn’t get to stay as long as we normally do. Our newborn was fussing his little head off after a few hours so we had to go! 🙂

In keeping with tradition, I always enjoy checking out the banner for each Fall Festival, and you can see 2011’s here. It’s a great celebration right in the heart of Brasstown, NC. I always enjoy it!

John C Campbell Folk School Fall Festival 2010

The Banner for the 2010 Folk School Fall Festival

Every year, The John C. Campbell Folk School hosts one of my personal favorite Fall Festivals in Murphy, NC. Thousands of people flock to the small town of Brasstown, NC to celebrate the changing of the seasons.

This year was no different. It was great! There were lots of people and some really good vendors this year. Everything from paintings, photography, prints, glass work, iron work, chairs, you-name-it was represented this year. All the vendors were great to speak with and where more than open to sharing their experiences and how they accomplished their craft.

Music and dancing is always a large part of the celebration. My

I love hearing the violins every year!

personal favorite is watching the younger kids play violins – they’re amazingly talented. Not only that, our church choir even sings at the barn which is always neat to watch.

If you’ve never been to a Fall Festival, you certainly need to! There’s nothing like it – just be sure to come hungry and ready to walk! 🙂

Enjoy The Movie Theaters in the Mountains of Murphy, North Carolina!

I love movies! So here are the local movie theatres that you might want to go see while you are in town to visit the beautiful Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains! They are all great! I really love going to the drive-in…sometimes they have double features so you get a two for your money! The Henn Theatre is a single cinema; however, it is really neat! It was built in 1934 and located in Downtown Murphy NC, so you could go to dinner, walk to the theater, then top the night off with some coffee. Tellico Offers 4 Wheel Drive Fun for Cherokee County NC!

Tellico Plains offers those who like to be off road and four-wheel driving the place to do it! It is maintained by the US Forest Service, and for a mere $5, you can ride all day long. A $30 annual permit is also available. Jeeps, Bronco’s, ATV’s, Quads, Dirt Bikes, all those types of off road machines are welcome! If you ride an ATV or dirt bike, just be sure to bring a helmet because the USFS requires you wear one on their trails.

From Murphy, Tellico is located to the North on Davis Creek Road. From there, there’s all sorts of cabin rentals, Jeep repair centers, and other small businesses oriented toward making your off-road stay a better experience. If it’s important to you, be sure to ask if your cabin has electricity because some out there don’t.

One of the most exciting events hosted in Tellico is the Jeep Jamboree.

Tellico is an extraordinarily fun place to spend the day if you love the outdoors and gas-powered toys. While you’re out riding, be sure to be safe. Davis Creek Road and many of the trails in Tellico drop of steeply on the mountain with no gaurd rails. Be sure to slow down and take a steady pace because the mountains are unforgiving.

New Happy Garden Chinese Restaurant Review

IMG00119 Welcome to the new restaurant in town! They just completed this building and it has only been up and running for a month or so now. In fact it has been so busy, finding a parking place has been a chore!

Formerly located in the Ingles shopping center in Murphy, it used to be a fairly dirty establishment (not speaking food-wise because I’ve not been in the kitchen. I mean floors, etc.). The new building is still twinkling with new-ness and is spiffy clean. Plenty of seating makes it easy for this place to hold quite the crowd.

There are at least five buffet trays (not including the desert one) with lots of hot food. I was quite surprised at the amount of American food – you don’t usually find meat loaf in a Chinese restaurant. In any case, its got something for everyone. Even if your kids don’t like Chinese, you can bring them here with confidence that they will find something they’ll like.

So if you’re a Chinese, American, and whatever else is on the buffet, try it out! It’s certainly worth the experience.

My overall rating: 4 Stars

Location:

1164 US Highway 64 West

Murphy, NC 28906

(828) 837-0711

It is located right on the highway just below the Holiday Inn Express and Eller and Owens Furniture store. Its approximately 2 miles west of McDonalds on the right hand side. It is directly across from the old RE/MAX office and the Humane Society Thrift Store.
