At 3 1/2 hours away, the Jack Daniels Distillery is a bit further away than most things I would recommend you do while you’re here in Murphy NC. However, we took a day trip to go see it and it was absolutely worth it! The tour itself is completely free!
Downtown Lynchburg TN itself makes Murphy look like New York City! We were surprised at just how small the town is – and trust me – everything there revolves around Jack Daniels. From the restaurant to the one Inn in the town, Jack Daniels is the center of it all.
On the tour, I expected being able to see the whole process would be the most impressive part. However I found the most amazing thing was the smells. They let you smell the mash and everything else there and its truly surprising the variety of scents there are. The one that surprised me the most was when the mash was fermenting, it was 
bubbling like a witch’s brew and has an incredibly potent smell! Talk about clearing your sinuses!
This is one thing you should seriously consider checking out! It’s a lot of fun and we even bought one of the old whiskey barrels while we were there and have it on our front porch as a conversation and decoration piece. Enjoy!
