RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon Visits Murphy NC for Fourth of July Celebration at Konaheeta Park

This Fourth of July, we were fortunate to have the RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon visit us in Murphy NC. The Fourth’s Celebration is always held at Konaheeta Park, and we simply could not have asked for a more pristine, perfect Fourth of July.

In the almost ten years I’ve worked with RE/MAX, it’s always exciting to see the Hot Air Balloon in real life. It’s a “logo” that truly turns heads, and I’m not different! It’s magnificent to watch it go from a giant tube sock to a 90,000 cubic foot icon. So to share the fun we had, here’s a lot of pictures we took. Enjoy!

One great thing was we charged $5 per person to ride the balloon and we were able to donate every penny of proceeds to two needy families here in Cherokee County. It’s a blessing to be able to help those who need it. And to all who rode the ballon, thank you for participating and helping someone who truly needs it. Happy Fourth! We hope to see you next year!

Fourth of July Article Written for The Cherokee Scout’s Country Roads Magazine by John Poltrock

Likely the greatest American holiday is the Fourth of July. It celebrated across our great land and offers tremendous opportunities for family and friends to get together in celebration. It’s a federal holiday that is celebrated in a variety of different ways. Spectacles of light and sound, explosions, gun shots, flags, smoking grills, delicious foods, and so much more are spread across the country in festivities that are second to none.

Interestingly enough, it was July 2, 1766 that Congress actually declared the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain. In fact, John Adams wrote to his wife:

“The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.”

His prediction of celebration was absolutely correct. However, the day of the celebration was off by two days. Congress declared the Fourth of July as our Independence Day because on that day in 1776, Congress approved the final version of the Declaration of Independence.

It’s important to remember that the day we celebrate was not lightly won. Many sacrifices have been given. Families have been destroyed, lives and minds have been lost, and things have been taken that we can’t even begin to tally or imagine. Although it was the Revolutionary War separated us into our own country, the sacrifices did not stop there. Our country has endured many wars and conflicts that has kept our freedoms alive and fully intact. Nor is done – our servicemen and women will continue to fight to protect what our Founding Fathers have laid out for us.

While we all enjoy our freedom and all we have in our lives, let us not forget our roots, our duties, and those who both make and made our country great. There’s no doubt we live in the best country in the world – the United States of America. May God bless America.

Fourth of July – There’s no better place than Murphy North Carolina

Hamburgers, hotdogs, the aroma of smoldering charcoal, flying kites, boats, lakes, family, friends, time off, and of course, fireworks. If these things don’t make the Fourth of July great, I don’t know what does. Here in Murphy, we have one of the Greatest Fourth of July celebrations of anywhere! Where else can you find a celebration that lets kids chase a greased pig to win a contest?! I hope we have that this year because that’s one of my personal favorites. The kids and adults both love it! There’s even a peanut drop where an airplane flies low and drops thousands of peanuts. Kids scramble to grab as many as they can to win prizes! There are many other events that go on at Konaheeta Park like face painting, jump houses, food, crafts, vendors, and more that you need to check out.

Murphy, North Carolina is a place that brings family and friends together. The mountains are a place of relaxation, rest, and rejuvenation. It doesn’t matter where you are from – here, there, or yon, you are welcome to enjoy all that the mountains have to offer. Fourth of July provides opportunities like no other to get outside (or inside if it’s hot enough!) and enjoy everything from the mountain views, creeks, rivers, and down home celebrations.

Personally, I love to spend it with our family and friends on Hiwassee Lake. There’s nothing better than getting the opportunity to jump in the lake, fish, read, relax, and eat lots of good food. Finished with fireworks downtown, it makes it one of our family’s favorite days of the year.

So on this important day celebrating our Nation’s Independence, make certain you enjoy it and make the most of all there is to do and see. There’s no where better to be in the world in my book – and that’s what makes this home.
